WHAT IS A DEC?
A Display Energy Certificate (DEC) shows the operational energy performance of a building based on its actual energy consumption. Unlike an EPC, which is primarily an assessment of the building's theoretical energy performance, a DEC reflects the building's actual energy use during occupation. The certificate gives the building an operational rating from, A — Most efficient to G — Least efficient The rating is calculated using the building's energy consumption and is compared against a benchmark for similar types of buildings. A Recommendation Report (RR) accompanies the DEC, highlighting cost-effective measures to improve the buildings energy performance. Both documents MUST be displayed in public buildings .

NEW INSTRUCTIONS, ALL BUILDINGS NEEDING A RR and BUILDINGS NEEDING A DEC UNDER 999m2
A site visit would be required and the relevant energy consumption data would need to be sent over.
BUILDINGS OVER 1000m2 NEEDING A RENEWAL
Just the energy consumption data would need sending. If nothing has changed within the building over the last 12 months a simple headed letter explaining this removes the need to do another site visit.
